Gold embossing on spine still bright. Hinges cracked. Library label on inside front cover. Inscribed by the author on the second blank page as follows: George E. Emery, Esq. with respects of James R. Newhall Lynn, Jan. 14, 1880 (see photo). Yellow spotting from age on title-page and frontispiece. Minor pencil notations on several internal pages. Inside pages are age-toned, otherwise clean and unmarked. Includes three full-page illustrative plates, frontispiece illustrations and several in-text illustration. Description Scarce. Published in 1880, book is the 2nd edition of work originally published in 1862. The 1880 edition is enlarged and hard to find. Written by the Hon. James R. Newhall (1809 - 1893) of Lynn, MA. During the 19th century Newhall wrote several books on the history of Lynn, MA and was referred to as the "Historian of Lynn."The book is inscribed by the author to George E. Emery, Esq.
